What IFS is
Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, Internal Family Systems sees the mind as made up of many sub-parts, a little like a family. Some parts protect you; some carry old pain. Often they’re in conflict with each other and with your core Self.
IFS focuses on getting to know these parts, healing the wounded ones, and restoring balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create conflict inside.
What sessions are like
Sessions are conversational. We might notice a part that shows up as self-criticism or as an urge to numb out, get curious about what it’s trying to do for you, and with its permission, reach the hurt it’s been protecting. The approach is gentle and respectful of every part of you.
What IFS is used for
- Trauma and PTSD
- Self-esteem and harsh self-criticism
- Codependency and relationship patterns
- Anxiety and depression
Sessions and fees
Sessions are 55 minutes and $165, online by video or in person in Renton, WA on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I’m not contracted with insurance; I can give you a superbill if you’d like to ask your plan about out-of-network reimbursement.
Questions
Does having “parts” mean something is wrong with me?
No. In IFS everyone has parts; it’s a normal way minds work. The goal isn’t to get rid of any of them but to help them trust your core Self.
