What Brainspotting is
Developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting is built on a simple observation: where we look can affect how we feel. A “brainspot” is an eye position linked to an emotional or physical response to a memory.
By holding your gaze on that spot while staying aware of what you notice in your body, you give your brain the chance to process the traumatic memories that cause you distress. It relies less on talking than traditional talk therapy.
The aim is faster healing from trauma, and with it a better quality of life.
What sessions are like
We start with what you’d like to work on and notice where you feel it in your body. I help you find the eye position where that feeling is strongest (or, sometimes, calmest), and you focus there while I stay with you and track what comes up. We go at your pace and close each session with time to ground yourself.
What Brainspotting is used for
- Trauma and PTSD
- Anxiety and stress
- Feelings that are hard to put into words
Sessions and fees
Sessions are 55 minutes and $165, online by video or in person in Renton, WA on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I’m not contracted with insurance; I can give you a superbill if you’d like to ask your plan about out-of-network reimbursement.
Questions
How is Brainspotting different from EMDR?
Both help the brain process trauma. EMDR uses moving eye movements, taps or tones in a structured protocol; Brainspotting holds a single eye position and follows what your body and mind bring up. We can decide together which fits you.
Can Brainspotting be done online?
Yes. I offer Brainspotting online by video in all six of my states, and in person in Renton, WA.
